About 3 weeks ago there was a tragic flood that flooded about 60,500 people's houses.
I was getting ready for my 1st day of school when we got an email saying that school was canceled. It was raining really hard and didn't quit. Over the next couple of days the rain eventually got high enough to start flooding houses. On the news you could see that many houses were completely underwater.
One of my friends house was gone. It was underwater to where you couldn't ever see it. When the sun finally did come out and you could drive, we went to help. We brought food, a generator, and cleaning supplies. Once we got there we had to tear out everything there. Bags after bags were filled with stuff that couldn't be saved. It took us 3 days to get everything out. When we finally did we helped them get some things they needed and made sure they had a place to stay.
My friend's house was not the only one affected. My friends and I went to help at a shelter and saw so many people who had no place to go. It was heart breaking. There were elderly couples, young couples, children, and pets. It was a good learning experience for me to realize that I was lucky not to have my house flooded. It was a terrible thing that happened but I think it made our community come together as one to help each other out.
I agree with you that this flood has brought our community closer together. I'm sorry to hear about your friend's house who got flooded. This flood definitely made me appreciative of what I have.

ReplyDeleteYou are so right, it was such a sad and heart breaking event that happened. I never thought about how much damage water could do before this. It made me feel good to help people but sad to see the devastation.
