City Of Bones Update

Since last week, Clary has waken up. She doesn't want to live at the institute. She isn't fully convinced that she is a shadow hunter.  She calls her good family friend, Luke, to see if he knows anything. He tells her not to call or go to his house ever again. Clary and Jace go back to her house. There they find another demon. This one was more easily killed. Then they go to her neighbor's and figure out that she is a witch. They go through the portal at her house to Luke's. They find there more shadow hunters.

The beginning was telling about Clary and her life and how it was normal. Then the rising action was when Clary was first attacked and when she saw Jace for the first time. Finally, what I can tell right now is that the climax is Clary knowing, and becoming a shadow hunter. I haven't yet read to know if this is the main climax. I also obviously know the falling action yet either.

Camping

Hannah was at the camp site with four friends and her family. Everyone was still eating and she went to find the bathroom. She walked for thirteen minutes and didn’t find anything. She went to go back, but she couldn’t find where she came from. She was lost. She suddenly started running to where she thought she came from. As she was running she heard a loud roar. There right in front of her was bear. The bear stared at her for a moment. Then the bear went up to her. She was terrified. She didn’t want to scream because the bear might hurt her, so she petted it. The bear liked her. The bear started walking away. Hannah followed. The bear finally stopped to eat. Hannah walked up to bear again and looked around. She realized the bear was eating her hotdog that was at the cabin. She was now back at the cabin. Then the bear went away and Hannah ate s’mores with her friends.

City Of Bones Week 3

Clary was bitten by a demon and was unconscious. Jace, a shadowhunter, takes her to the institute. There she was healed and learns that she is a shadowhunter. I think that Clary is really brave. She wakes up in a strange place with people she doesn't even know. She continues to stay calm and doesn't freak out.

Then Clary has to talk with Hodge. The "leader" of the place they are at. She doesn't question it and it willing. That surprises me that she is that easy going and willing. She is told many things that she doesn't understand. She accepts what they say. She may believe what they say but she does keep in her mind that this is a little crazy.

Dear 13 Year Old

Dear thirteen year old,
Don't stress out over grades. Yes it is a good thing to make all A's. And yes it is important to study, but just because you make one or two or even more bad grades doesn't mean you are dumb. The world will not end. You should always try your hardest and make an effort, but don't get to overwhelmed because it will make it even harder to learn.

Don't compare how you did on a test to how other people did. You may study really hard and understand the information, but are not a good test taker. Also they may just be a good guesser. You never know. It is easy for you to think that the only thing that matters is your grades but it isn't. It is okay for you to have a B or maybe even a C. Try your hardest and give an effort. Thats what really matters.

Signed a fourteen year old.

Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina was a category 3 ranking hurricane on a scale from of 1 to 5. For a hurricane to be a category 3 it must have 111-130 mph winds. This was what was happening in New Orleans August 29, 2005.  New Orleans is already below sea level and is surrounded by water. They had strong levees for the Mississippi River, but the levees for Lake Ponchartrain weren't as reliable.

New Orleans was hit the hardest from Hurricane Katrina. There was flooding everywhere. There were places that had 9 meters high of flooding. In a result of all of that 35,000 people had to be rescued. No one knew what to do or how bad it was. 15,000 people were now homeless and had no food and no plan. Overall 2,000 people died. It was unimaginable. It was tragic.

City Of Bones

I haven't read much of The City Of Bones yet, but it has been interesting. The author, Cassandra Clare, uses ways to make you imagine the scene. She uses good adjectives for everything. When she writes you can picture what the character is wearing, what the surrounding is like, and what she is feeling. The ways she shows the characters emotions is by explaining look of the person and how her thoughts. For example if a character is mad she will say how red they are and how their fist is turning white from clenching it.

Clare does a good job with climax. I haven't yet reached one hundred pages and she already threw a big fight with people dying. I like how she goes from slow to fast in a matter of pages. For instance, the main character, Clary, was walking into her house when a demon comes and attacks her. She thinks she kills it so it was almost normal again. Then all of the sudden it comes back and bites her. As the reader, I think she might die. Then she wakes up.

The Great Flood Of 2016

About 3 weeks ago there was a tragic flood that flooded about 60,500 people's houses.
I was getting ready for my 1st day of school when we got an email saying that school was canceled. It was raining really hard and didn't quit. Over the next couple of days the rain eventually got high enough to start flooding houses. On the news you could see that many houses were completely underwater.

One of my friends house was gone. It was underwater to where you couldn't ever see it. When the sun finally did come out and you could drive, we went to help. We brought food, a generator, and cleaning supplies. Once we got there we had to tear out everything there. Bags after bags were filled with stuff that couldn't be saved. It took us 3 days to get everything out. When we finally did we helped them get some things they needed and made sure they had a place to stay.

My friend's house was not the only one affected. My friends and I went to help at a shelter and saw so many people who had no place to go. It was heart breaking. There were elderly couples, young couples, children, and pets. It was a good learning experience for me to realize that I was lucky not to have my house flooded. It was a terrible thing that happened but I think it made our community come together as one to help each other out.

Counting By 7's

Counting By 7's is written by Holly Goldburg Sloan is about a very smart girl. Then her parents pass away. I felt very bad for Willow because she didn't have any friends before her parents died. When they died it made her very sad. Thankfully she made a couple of really good friends that helped her through that hard time in her life.

One strategy I used reading Counting By 7's  was to put yourself in the character's shoes. Each chapter the narrator would switch making it hard to understand. You had to pretend to be Willow or  Dell. It was easier to understand Dell because you easily relate to him. It was more difficult to understand Willow because I have never lost both my parents and not have a place to stay.
