anticipating the next book

I agree that ambition is a positive, desirable trait in a person. To be ambitious also means to determined and to work for what you want. That is a good thing to do because they tend to work harder. Ambitious people do this by identifying what they want and taking a risk to get it. I think it is a good thing to try to work for what you want.

The third sentence is something we have looked at before. It reminds me of what we studied in Lord of The Flies. One of the thinkers believed that lying, betrayal, and violence is part of life. We saw this in Jack in LOTF. I personally disagree with this. I do not think all people are bad. I think that under certain conditions like in LOTF you can turn bad, but all people are not born bad.

Hits and Misses

This year it has been challenging to write and essay. The most challenging was the thesis and the conclusion. Mid-year we did our big essay on the world history topic. I was having a difficult time trying to find a thesis. After I went to the writing center and we worked a little in class I found that it was improving. I also didn't know if my thesis was to long, but then I realized that it can be more than one sentence.

The conclusion was hard too. I didn't know if it was too wordy or if I was repeating myself. I asked for help and I fixed it a little, but I still struggle with it. I grew greatly on making the annotated bibliography and putting that into paragraphs. Once I got the bibliography, it was easier.

New York Times List: What I am really Learning at School

At school, students are taught a lot of material. In biology I am learning that taking notes is important. It is important in this class because the teacher likes to give mini quizzes and tells us most of the information that is on the quiz instead of just reading the book. My next class is World History and I learned that repeating the same power point everyday helps you learn the material. When it comes to the test I know the material because we go over it everyday.

In Spanish I am learning that reading in the language will help with speaking, learning vocabulary, and finally graded activities. In English I have learned that poetry can be found in almost everything. Ever since learning it, I have noticed poetry in songs and books I have read. Lastly, in math I have learned that asking your friends for help before asking the teacher is okay. When we got a new teacher, she encouraged us to work with friends and other people. All of these classes have helped me learn in many ways.

Reading Purple Hibiscus

Purple Hibiscus can be a tough book to read. One way that can help you get through the book is to read when you are assigned to. If you do not read when you are assigned you will have nearly 60 pages to make up. Another way I read is to write down summaries at the end of the chapter so that you can remember what happened. It can also help you if you are looking for a certain part and can't remember what chapter it was.

Some challenges for me is that it takes me a long time to read and annotate. It has gotten easier to do this because I asked Dr.D for suggestions. She said that reading should not take to long and that you do not have to annotate a ton on each page. I used to have at least three things written on a page. She said there can be only one or even none. This advice has helped me a lot and made reading easier.

Political Article

The article I chose was about Trump's wall. It was written by Tal Kopan. He writes that Trump asks government for one billion dollars for only sixty two miles. The article advances with where the wall will be put up and that some of the money will be used to repair fences that are already there. Kopan describes that Trumps sees a large concrete wall around the border. Kopan then goes on to say other's opinions like Homeland Security Secretary, John Kelly. He says that he would like it to stay a fences because it is easier for the security to come in and out. He also thinks that the wall would be a waste of time.

After hearing this article's views, I think that Trump should not build the wall, but improve the fences. The wall would be asking for billions of dollars and would take a long time to build. I read another article a the wall and it said that the fences are mostly working now. I know that that is not true for all places, but it the government improves on the places that need work, it could save a lot of money and time.

What I Have Learned Throught the Year

The past year I have learned to take notes in class. I used to not take notes and only pay attention or look in a book, but I have learned it helps write or type it down. For example, in math, Mrs. Rome gives us a packet with notes that you fill in. When I am not in class or forget something, I can look in the packet. Also, it helps to write things down in a way that you will understand and help you remember.

Another thing I have learned is to do your homework. I know that is common knowledge, but it really helps. Doing homework may take a long time, but it helps you when a test is coming up. If a test is the next day, then you can go back and study your homework, redo it, or make notes on it. Finally, the homework gives you easy points that benefit your grade. At the end of the quarter or semester it could give you the small points you need if you are borderline.

Free Post

Last Friday was St.Patrick's day. For St. Patrick's day I went to False River. I went with my family and cousins. We all tubed and swam in the lake. After we got out the water we went to get snowballs and crawfish. We all sat together and at for hours. It was fun to visit and see everyone.

The next day was the St.Patrick's Day parade. I was not able to go because I had drivers ed. I had to wake up early to go to the driving place for eight hours. It was exhausting. I was supposed to go both Saturday and Sunday, but we ended up ending early. We took the test at the end of the day and I passed! Then I got ready with my friends for the cotillion dance. It was a fun weekend.

Song

The song "Umbrella" by Rihanna has many poetry terms shown throughout the book. For example I noticed and alliteration in the song. The line "Good girl, gone bad" repeats the g sound three times in the beginning of the words. Another example is when she sings, " when the world has dealt it's cards." This is an example of personification. Personification is when animals, abstract things are referred to as if they are humans. In this case, The world is being referred to as a human because it is dealing cards.
Rihanna uses this poetry to express her devotion for someone. She shows thing when she sings lines like, "we'll never be worlds apart" and "stick it out to the end."  She sings this song in first person revealing that she will always be there for Jay-Z for whatever and through whatever.

Mardi Gras Break

For Mardi Gras break I went to Snowmass, Colorado. I went there with my family and cousins. When we got there we met up with my friends too. One day I went skiing with Sarah, Madisyn Paige, and their sisters. We went up to the half pipe at least twelve times. It was so fun until Sarah's sister, Emma, lost her ski on the lift. We had to sit and wait for fifteen minutes until someone told us that we had to go find it. Then Sarah and I had to ski down in the middle of the blizzard that was going on to find the ski.

Now that the break is almost over school is coming quick. Back to waking up early and piles of homework. Im sad but relieved to go back. I'll get to see my other friends and get back into the routine of things. I think of it as the sooner we go back the sooner the next break.

Poem

My dog is big.
My dog is black.
My dog has spots on his back.
He likes to eat.
He likes to sleep.
But most of all he likes to ride in the jeep.
We watch tv and play fetch.
He gets the ball and wants me to catch.
Woof woof.

Post Using Vocab.com

There was a trial going on. A man had stolen all of the woman's money. She told the police that she was positive it was this man. The police started to interrogate. First they searched the man's house for any envelopes with money. Then they questioned him. The policed queried the man until he cracked.

The man confessed that he was at her house to steal the money, but once he got there it was all gone. The cops didn't believe him. Once the case went to trial, they cross examined him. He didn't change his story. Then while questioning the woman's family, they found out that the woman had a maid. The maid was called to be questioned and she confessed right away.

Research Process

One of the hardest parts of the research paper is organizing. In my opinion, it is hard to group ideas that go together. Making the notecards were helpful this process. Grouping the notecards were a lot harder than making them. For example, I didn't know if I should do many groups or a smaller amount of groups with more notecards in them. Once I did that, the body paragraphs were easy.

Another hard part was the citations. I didn't know at first if we should cite the sentences in the introduction and conclusion. I am still a little confused about that. Also, the citations are very repetitive and I don't know how to fix that. After I did a couple of them and Dr. D went over it in class, I understood better.

Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian Part 2

So far, from last week to this week, I am on page 102. Junior just started the all white school. He felt out of place and didn't have any friends. On the first day, he saw this girl named Penelope and instantly likes her. There was also another person he meets named Roger. Roger is the head of the group. He starts making fun of Junior, so Junior does what they do at the rez. He punches him and Roger doesn't punch back. Junior is confused why and realizes that the fighting "rules" were different.

After Junior punches Roger, he earns his respect. He goes back to school and Roger is nice to him. Then Penelope starts to talk to him more. They decide to raise money for the poor together. He also meets this boy named Gordy. Gordy is weird and super smart. Gordy and Roger become friends.

Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

Right now I am on page 54 of Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. So far I have gotten to know the characters and setting. The main character, Junior, is a smart fourteen year old that was born with fluid on his brain. He lives with his father that is a drunk and mother who was a drunk. His sister is unpredictable, so they call her Mary Run Away. Rowdy is his best friend. He is tough and strong. He is also abused by his parents. Rowdy protects Junior from other bullies.

One day Junior's teacher,Mr. P, goes to Junior's house and explains that he should leave the indian reserve. He says that all hopes and dreams are crushed here. Junior takes that information and decides to go to a school that is smarter and has hope. This school has no indians. Junior goes tell his best friend and Rowdy gets angry. Rowdy sheds a tear and then punches Junior. He has never hit Junior before. Then Junior narrates that his best friend just became his enemy.

Last Week

Last week was crazy busy. Monday I had to work a lot on my social studies outline. The outline took a long time and was difficult. The hardest part was finding a thesis. I worked all night and didn't finish until around one o'clock. The next day I had cheer. I also had a Spanish quiz that day.

On Wednesday, I went home with Sophia because we had tennis. We went shop after school to find a dress for Snowball. That night I didn't get home until nine and then still had to do homework. Thursday was my grandmother's birthday. So after school my family went to her house and and visited. After that I went to my friends house and boiled crawfish. The next day I didn't have much work. After school I went to the movies with my friends. Finally, Saturday I went to Snowball and my friends spent the night after.

The Black Death

The Black death, or Bubonic Plague, is a disease that was in the fourteenth century. It is still around today, but it is not as common. The symptoms are swelling, throwing up blood, and most people die. It was so bad in Europe that about fifty percent died. It affected everything. For example, it affected economics, politics, religion, everyday life, food, population, and trade.

People tried to stop the plague by clearing their sins, home remedies, rituals, fumes, and more. By trying to stop the sickness, quarantine, contagious was understood, and hospitals were created. This help life today. The plague was thought to be the cause of the Dark Ages and Renaissance too.

Last Semester I Learned about Time Managment

Time management is when you do tasks in a timely manner without having to cram. This is important because you can take your time and not get behind. When you use this your work load is a lot lighter and you don't have to stay up late. It helps if you are busy with sports after school because you don't have to get home late and stay up all night to finish homework.

To keep up with my homework, I do my homework in study hall and then look at what I have the rest of the week. If there are things I can do that is due later, I try to do them. For example, I do my blog comments on the days I post my blogs. I will use this to my my semester better, because I have something everyday after school and get home late. By not getting behind and keeping up, I will be able to whatever when I get home.

Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend

This short three weekend break was jam packed. On Friday, I cheered at the girls basketball game. I was fun even though we lost. Then I went with friends to go eat. We had Mexican food that was really good. The next day I went to Orange Beach.

On Saturday I went to Orange Beach with Sophia. We got there and went to the beach immediately. We ran and played in the sand even though it was chilly outside. The next day we were on the beach all day. We tanned, swam, and ate all day. The final day, we went to Waffle House and shopped. We went to many shops and took tons and tons of pictures. We had so much fun and I wish we could have stayed longer!

Research Update

My research has been going quite well. I have found all of my sources and done my annotations. Finding sources has been decent because most of the sources I was looking at were similar. The annotations have been a little bit harder. The hardest part of the annotations were the reflections. It was difficult trying to summarize and say how I was going to use it without repeating myself.

I don't have many question, but I wasn't positive about my formatting. I exported the citations from noodle tools and it looked good. In social studies when we cited the sources where indented, but when i imported they were not indented. Overall I understood all of it or enough to do the assignment.
